Happy Teachers' Day from Thorsignia

Chalkboard - Dusting Away Ignorance

Before we begin, Software company Thorsignia wishes all the teachers reading this a wonderful Teachers' Day.

You dread them, you adore them or you simply reminisce about their adorations and rebukes. They molded you, an amorphous blob of wax, into a beautiful, scented candle. You might think "why candle?" It burns and melts. Sounds insignificant, right?

Candles are generous and thrifty (for the sake of context) in nature. They illuminate the dark and can be used again. No wastage. Metaphorically, 'they', i.e., teachers always wanted you to be a guiding light. Grow but do not forget to take others forward with you. Be the brightest light in the room.

Apart from introducing you to the Milky Way and Indus Valley, your teachers cemented a foundation that is still holding the varying degrees of weights; weights of your adult life or mature years.

A teacher is not confined to schools or educational institutions. A cordon bleu chef, skillful vendor, skittish child or local darzi can teach you innumerable facts of life and eye-opening truths. In fact, a teacher might not be a human at all. It can be any sentient being. Remember the poem about a plucky ant? Or Incy Wincy spider?

The beauty of teaching is in its variegated nature. It is not limited. Its forms and fields are innumerable. Your favorite T.V. show might teach you a thing or two about relationships, comedy, and cultures. TED talks are enlightening. Even if you are not interested in neurology/cognitive science; you enjoy topical TED talks. Knowledge is everywhere. However, it is not alone. It always brings with it a messenger (teacher) who can deliver its substance properly.

What is interesting about the qualities of a teacher? They are common. We all have them. You are a teacher too. Your experiences, stories, values, wisdom, concepts, and thoughts are invaluable. Communication is the best method to learn and deliver that which is novel and different.

Take a moment and thank your teachers for leaving an indelible mark on the essence of your being. Thank them for introducing you to books, science, politics, soccer, theatre, literature, or life.

Remember Dead Poets Society?

Who is your John Keating?
Thorsignia's team members talk about their Keating-esque teachers. Read on.

"I changed a lot of schools. I moved to Dharwad when I was in VII standard. I was unable to concentrate on studies. I was not feeling good because of the shifting... My class teacher Mrs. Veronica helped me in many ways. She sat with me and talked about what I was going through."
-Akshata, SEO Analyst

"Sreya Kana Mukherjee taught me Bengali when I was in X standard. I was attracted to the way she carried herself; her dressing style. She took care of little things. During drama performances, she took care of costumes, decorations..."
-Srijani Ghatak, HR

"When I was studying engineering, Mr. Rajanna taught microprocessors, microcontrollers, and logic design. He taught us concepts beyond books; real-time applications. During practical exams, others used to give questions from manuals but he gave his own questions."
